An easy hack to get more press with AI

How to get more press quotes from HARO and Qwoted with AI

Freemium services that connect journalists with expert sources make it easier to get press features. Journalists post questions for the stories they are working on, experts answer the questions, and journalists pick which expert quotes to use.

However, the easiest channel is often the most competitive. Journalists get 10-100 responses to HARO inquiries.

The secret to standing out in this competitive space is providing a unique quote. AI will help us find one.

What to do:

  1. Sign up for an account with HARO, Qwoted, or another service that connects sources with journalists.

  2. Look through HARO or Qwoted for a story about your industry, background, or interests.

  3. Ask the AI content tool to answer the journalists’ questions in a few different ways. For example, if the question was “how can people recover from burnout,” use a prompt like “list 7 ways that a person can recover from burnout.”

  4. Look at the list the AI tool returns. The answers are common responses to the journalist’s questions—the ones that other people will give.

  5. Think of an answer to the question that is not on the AI list.

  6. Send that answer to the journalist.

AI can help you find quotes that stand out—you just have to use what it doesn’t say instead of what it suggests.

How to increase your chances of getting featured in HARO or Qwoted

  • Respond to queries as quickly as you can-ideally, within an hour.

  • Only pitch stories that are a fit for your experience and expertise.

  • Add a brief bio that shows that you have the expertise the journalist is seeking.

  • Send the journalist a quote they can use without having to edit it or follow up with you.

  • Add a line at the end of your response giving the journalist permission to use your quote.

AI NEWS FOR BUSY MARKETERS
  • Copyright law does not protect AI images: In one of the first decisions on copyright protection for AI-derived works, the U.S. Copyright Office revoked Kris Kashtanova’s copyright on comic book artwork she generated in Midjourney. The office ruled that the images “are not the product of human ownership” and cannot be copyrighted.

  • AI voice generator fools bank: A Vice reporter was able to “break into” their bank account using an AI replica of their voice.

  • You can speak to Bing chat now: This week, Microsoft added voice and mobile access to its AI chatbot. However, after a few tweaks from Microsoft, Bing chat will no longer share details about its “feelings”.
